The New England Playwrights Project announces 2006 Summer Theater Arts Program!

The New England Playwrights Project is a new, local non-profit, dedicated to discovering writers, songwriters, and lyricists and developing new works of theater. To that end, a vital part of the organization's mission is to educate and inspire the next generation of theater writers and performers, beginning with its first annual Summer Theater Arts Program.

Courses will be offered in singing, acting, playwriting and songwriting, with an emphasis on improvisation, collaboration, and discovering the creative process, as well as basic technique. Students focusing on performance disciplines will also workshop pieces for use in auditions, while students focusing on writing or songwriting will create and workshop short pieces to be performed in class. The program's final class will be open to family and friends.

The three-week program is open to 30 area students, ages 13-18, interested in writing or performing new works, and exploring their own talents and creativity. Students will be able to focus on their primary area(s) of interest, while being exposed to each discipline offered by the program. All students will be encouraged to participate as fully as they wish in all disciplines.

The program will be held at South Hadley High School from July 24th-August 11th, Monday-Friday from 9:00am-2:00pm. Students should bring their own bag lunch. The fee for the program is $175 ($200 after July 5th). For information on our summer staff, click here.
